Sullivan Environmental Consulting, Inc.
EPA Method TO-17 Laboratory Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry Air Sample Analysis
Sullivan Environmental has taken well over 20,000 air samples and has developed an easy system that allows individuals to collect their own air samples at their convenience. This procedure provides professional results that can be obtained by a non-professional.
Determine the air quality in your home or business. We ship the sampling equipment to you, provide return labels, and facilitate the laboratory analysis.
Each Air Sample Evaluates:
– Significant EPA Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs),
– Airborne mold,
– Key volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the air (the highest 6 VOC’s are reported),
– Odor-causing compounds in the air,
– Pollution source categories,
– Contamination Index,
– Total VOC’s (ng/l).
*Each sample is returned with a sample-specific laboratory report generated by one of our accredited partner laboratories. The cost per sample, including laboratory analysis, shipping, and equipment rental, is $625 for the first sample (discounts for additional samples).
1. Download and fill out the Liability and Services Contract:
After the contract is completed by you, upload the signed contract below. You will then receive the signed contract back from Sullivan Environmental with our signature confirming the services to be provided. After you receive the signed contract returned from Sullivan Environmental in your email, proceed to payment in step 2 (below).
2. Pay through one of two online payment methods (both methods are secure). We currently accept payment via credit card through PayPal or Square Pay. Select one of the options below:
3. Receive the equipment from Sullivan Environmental, including:
A calibrated air sampling pump, three-stage charcoal air sample tube(s), easy-to-use chain-of-custody form(s), Pre-paid return shipping label and Hard Case.
4. View the YouTube video (simple sampling demonstration).

5. Take the sample(s). Each sample should be run for 2 hours. The sample start and stop time should be included on the chain of custody form. This allows us to calculate the concentration in the air based on the flow rate, chemical retained in the sampling tube, and time the air is drawn through the tube via the air sampling pump (this is important).
6. Complete the chain-of-custody form. This will be shipped with the air sampling equipment.
7. Send the sample(s) and equipment back to Sullivan Environmental (UPS return label and shipping container included).
8. Receive your laboratory results within two weeks via email. Hard copy laboratory reports are available in the Continental United States, upon request for an additional cost of $5.00.
